My First Scratch Project

Follow these simple steps in this program to create your first Project in Scratch. 

This Project is designed to help you feel comfortable with the block based system, saving your work and loading it up again. 

  1. Create a new Scratch Project by clicking the create button. 
  2. Change the name of the project to My First Project. 
  3. Click File then save now. 
  4. To show where this has been saved, click on the folder icon next to your name in the top right hand corner. 
  5. You will be able to see all the projects you have made here, click on My First Project and select, See Inside to return to the code editor. 
  6. Now it is time to start programming! 
  7. Delete the Cat sprite and add the new Sprite, the bear. 
  8. Now add a backdrop, I have chosen Night City With Street.
  9. Now add the blocks of code you can see in the Code Area. 
  10. What happens when we click the green flag? What happens when we press and hold the left and right arrows on our keyboard? 
  11. How does this code work? 
  12. Remember to click, File, Save Now continually when your programming so that you don’t lose any work!

WELL DONE! YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR FIRST SCRATCH PROJECT!

You must now select 5 of the tutorials below to follow which will teach you everything you need to know about simple Scratch Games. 

Don’t just follow the tutorial, once it has finished, make the game your own. Build upon the ideas in the tutorial and see what you can come up with. 

Make sure you fill in your Learning Journey for each tutorial in FULL sentences. 

You should try to pick a tutorial path that matches your Current Computing Skill Level. For example, if you are on the Exceptional Computing Pathway, then you may wish to chose, 1 Foundation Tutorial, 1 Intermediate Tutorial, 2 Higher Tutorials and 1 Exceptional Tutorial. 

For your Assessment you will be expected to be able to create your own game over 2/3 lessons so practice these tutorials as best you can.
